The Discovery of a Masterpiece

The Discovery of a Masterpiece

On Monday, May 20th, at 1pm, the Mendham Township Library will host The Discovery of a Masterpiece” with art historian Mallory Mortillaro.

Come hear the amazing story of how Mallory Mortillaro, an art historian and citizen of New Jersey, discovered a genuine Auguste Rodin painting inside the Hartley Dodge Foundation’s art collection.

Mallory works for the Hartley Dodge Foundation in Madison, New Jersey, as the Curator of Collections. She discovered a masterwork that had been lost to the art world since the 1930s while cataloguing the pieces of art kept at the Hartley Dodge Memorial. After a year of research the piece was authenticated as an official work by Auguste Rodin. Mallory will tell the tale of how an seemingly ordinary art cataloging effort turned into a mission to determine the origins of the enigmatic piece, which resulted in one of the most significant art discoveries in recent history.

This program will be held in the Brookside Community Church’s Scialla Hall at 8 East Main Street in Brookside, NJ.
