Understanding Memorial Day’s Origins

Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day began in 1868 to honor soldiers who died in service. This tradition continues with deep gratitude and solemn respect across the country and here in Chester.

A Local Tradition of Remembrance

Every year, the Chester American Legion Post 342 and the Borough of Chester organize this heartfelt tribute. The ceremony includes music, guest speakers, and the reading of names of Chester’s fallen service members. A 21-gun salute powerfully concludes the gathering.
