Make planning your weekend outing simple by utilizing the online site map and event schedule. And the best part? Admission is completely free, ensuring everyone has the chance to experience the historical treasures around them.
Spring Encampment at Jockey Hollow
Journey further into the 18th century with an immersive, revolutionary experience at Morristown National Historical Park’s annual Spring Encampment. On the same weekend, May 3 and 4, Revolutionary War reenactors from across the Northeast will gather at Jockey Hollow, transforming it into a bustling military camp that brings the trials and triumphs of Revolutionary War life to vivid reality.
Admission is free, and all ages are welcome to experience the sights, sounds, and spirit of a soldier’s life during the American Revolution. Demonstrations throughout the weekend include musket drills, military inspections, cooking, sewing, and other camp chores. Younger guests can participate in a “children’s muster,” learning how to march and drill like Continental soldiers in a fun, interactive setting.
This year’s encampment is bigger than ever, thanks to additional interpretive demonstrations sponsored by the Friends of Jockey Hollow. Visitors can observe 18th-century carpentry with Scott Lance of At the Sign of the Adze, Ace, and Chisel, explore historical laundry techniques, and engage with a camp sutler—an 18th-century merchant who sold goods to soldiers.
To add to the excitement, the Wick House will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, and the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center will welcome guests from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Whether you’re a history buff or simply curious, this living history event is a rare opportunity to witness and connect with America’s past in a personal, unforgettable way.
