Youth Art Month at Wharton Public Library
[Wharton, New Jersey] – [March 1st – April 30th] – In celebration of Youth Art Month, the Wharton Public Library is excited to present a joint exhibition. This exhibition will feature the compelling works of Marieann Ugarte and Luna Tarakji, two talented local artists. Both artists use art to express deep emotions and meaningful experiences, offering unique perspectives on life through their creative works.
Marieann Ugarte: Art as Emotional Expression
Marieann Ugarte’s collection highlights the transformative power of art as a therapeutic outlet and emotional expression. What began as a hobby has, over time, evolved into a skilled practice that reflects the complexities of human emotions. Moreover, Ugarte’s artwork incorporates vivid colors, flowing lines, and textured surfaces, which together provoke specific emotional responses from the audience. As a result, each piece invites viewers to experience the full spectrum of human emotion and feeling. Through her work, Ugarte reflects on personal experiences with grief, joy, uncertainty, and self-discovery. Additionally, her art explores themes of healing, hope, and transformation, creating an emotional journey for each viewer.
Luna Tarakji: Art as a Universal Language
Luna Tarakji, a 17-year-old sophomore at Morris Hills High School, has been passionate about art since childhood. After arriving in the United States as a refugee fleeing the Syrian War in 2016, Luna turned to art for relaxation and self-expression. She believes that “art has its own language” and can be understood by creative minds willing to connect. Furthermore, in 2023, Luna graduated from MacKinnon Middle School with the school’s Art Achievement Award. Notably, Luna and her family became U.S. citizens in 2024.
