What the Constitution Means to Me – Pioneer Productions

Pioneer Productions is thrilled to announce the final encore performance of their production of Heidi Schreck’s “What the Constitution Means to Me.”  Following a sold-out run of the show in downtown Morristown earlier this year, and two previous encore weekends (at the Stanley Center in Chatham and at the Morris Museum in Morristown), the original cast and production team are coming together for a final encore performance at the Amp in Dover, NJ.

This performance is being presented in partnership with Morris Arts on October 2, 2026, at 8:00 PM.

“Morris Arts is thrilled to kick off our fall performance season at The Amp by partnering with Pioneer Productions for a final encore performance of What the Constitution Means to Me,” said Cyndall Bryce, Community Engagement Director for Morris Arts.  “We believe this acclaimed production will help introduce The Amp to the region as a performing arts destination and showcase how the venue can accommodate high-quality theatrical experiences and meaningful community conversations.”

Located in the heart of downtown Dover, The Amp is a newly redeveloped multidisciplinary arts center housed in a transformed commercial property at 10 North Warren Street. Led by West Morris Capital, the 11,000-square-foot facility features a black box theater, gallery space, classrooms, artist studios, and a ceramics center. The project is supported in part by a New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) A.R.T. Phase II grant.

What the Constitution Means to Me won the Obie Award for Best New American Play and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play.  The play was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The production is directed by Pioneer Productions’ Artistic Director, Dan Vissers, and features veteran Pioneer actor Miriam Salerno as Heidi, whose performance has recently earned her a 2026 NJACT Perry Award Nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play (the award will be announced in October). The cast also includes Ben Weisman as the Legionnaire and Ashlee Vissers as the Debater.

About the play: Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play, What the Constitution Means to Me, breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful, and achingly human play, she resurrects her teenage self to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.  Don’t miss the chance to experience the play that The New York Times called “an act of civic engagement.”
