Few groups in any genre lasted longer or amassed a more loyal following than Peter, Paul, and Mary. During its legendary career, the trio won five Grammys, produced thirteen Top 40 hits, including eight gold and five platinum albums, and received The Songwriters Hall Of Fame’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
Peter, Paul & Mary was a supergroup of equals — three lead singers whose signature harmonies and emotional dynamics were branded on our national consciousness and in memories in such songs as “If I Had a Hammer,” “Puff the Magic Dragon,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and the wonderfully snarky “I Dig Rock and Roll Music.” The social and political import of their music was capped by their historic performance at the March on Washington immediately following Martin Luther King Jr.’s legendary “I Have a Dream” speech. In 2006, their final album featured the country hit “Don’t Laugh at Me,” which Yarrow later used as the basis for a successful anti-bullying campaign.
The opening will be Christine DeLeon, an astounding vocalist, a skillful songwriter, and a consummate musical communicator. Her voice is strikingly pure and absolutely beautiful. Her talent has been recognized far and wide — as winner of the 2023 Folk Project Songwriter Contest, finalist in the 2015 Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition, winner in the 2014 Recording Artists Development Singing Contest, three-category nominee in the 2013 Jersey Acoustic Music Awards, and winner in the 2008 New Jersey Folk Festival Songwriting Competition. Christine graduated summa cum laude with an Associate Degree in music and enjoys a solid career as a full-time music professional. As Troubadour and Getaway headliner, it’s clear that The Folk Project community is among her many fans.
Funding has been made possible in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
