Tour of The Willows 1854 Mansion at Fosterfields

Come enjoy a tour of The Willows, the 1854 Gothic-revival style mansion commissioned by Joseph W. Revere, a war veteran and a grandson of patriot Paul Revere and his wife, Rosanna.

In 1881, Charles Foster bought The Willows and surrounding farmland and ran a dairy farm on this Morristown property, naming it “Fosterfields.” Thanks to the Fosters’ continuous ownership, The Willows has retained its original 19th- and 20th-century architecture and character. Additionally, Charles’ daughter Caroline spent 98 of her 102 years at Fosterfields managing the farm, socializing during the Gilded Age, and participating in the civic life of 20th-century Morristown.

In each room, you’ll hear a different story about the people who lived and worked there. From the Reveres and the Fosters to the predominantly Irish immigrant servants. The guided tour begins in the mudroom and the kitchen with its icebox and wood-burning stove, and the cook’s and the butler’s pantries. Attendees will also be able to tour the dining room that features Revere’s magnificent trompe l’oeil paintings, the foyer with its intricate wood-carved mantelpiece designed to impress guests, and the parlor where hosts made entertainment for them. On the second floor, you’ll visit Charles’ and Caroline’s bedrooms and the servants’ quarters.

Tours occur on Fridays and Saturdays at 11 AM and 2 PM. You can make a reservation by calling (973) 326-7645 or emailing tours@morrisparks.net.

Reservations are preferred, but we welcome walk-ins arriving 15 minutes prior to the tour, space permitting. The guided house tour costs $5, which includes admission to a self-guided tour of the entire farm, where you can see the historic barnyard and visit animals like Daisy, the Jersey calf.
