Ridge Kennedy & Hot Wasabi bring a lively night of contra dancing to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Main Street, Chatham, NJ, on Saturday, February 21st from 7:30pm to 10:30pm, with a beginners’ workshop at 7pm. The band features Dave Miller on fiddle, Chris Carpenter on guitar, clarinet, and whistle, and Roberta Goren on flute. Ridge Kennedy calls a creative mix of dances, from classic long lines to squares, circles, and pairs, and welcomes both new and experienced dancers. Admission is sliding scale $15–$20+ (students $5), payable at the door, with Apple/Google Pay and credit cards accepted.
New dancers can start with the 7pm intro lesson, and no partner is needed. The group teaches every dance with a walkthrough and uses gender-neutral Larks & Robins terms. Masks and vaccines are optional, and open windows and air-conditioning help keep the space comfortable. The venue sits two blocks from the Chatham station on the Morris/Essex line from NYC. Bring a water bottle, comfortable shoes, and snacks to share, and enjoy a friendly, inclusive evening of music and movement.
