Why You Need a NJ Boat Safety Certificate
If you plan to operate a personal watercraft (Jet Ski, Wave Runner, etc.) or a power vessel in New Jersey, you must possess a valid New Jersey boat safety certificate. This class meets the state’s Division of State Police Marine Law Enforcement requirements for boat safety education. In fact, upon successful completion, you will receive a temporary certificate. Additionally, Boat Safe US courses are approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Class Details and Registration
The Morris County Boat Safety Class offers comprehensive instruction to prepare you for the proctored exam. The course lasts one full day (8.5 hours, including a lunch break) or can be taken over two evenings (three and a half hours per session with mandatory homework). Upon completion, students aged 13 and over will receive a valid New Jersey State Boater’s Safety Certificate, which is accepted in many states as proof of completing a Boating Safety Course. This certificate covers power boats and jet skis for those aged 16 and over.
