From Farragut Place to Fifth Avenue: The Colorful Life of the Colles Family
The Morristown and Morris Township Library Presents, “From Farragut Place to Fifth Avenue: The Colorful Life of the Colles Family,” on Wednesday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Library’s Lower-Level Meeting Room.
James Colles and his wife Harriet Wetmore Colles built the “Evergreen” mansion in the 1830s, in what is now known as Morristown’s historic district. Currently, the building serves as the home base of the Kellogg Club. In this presentation, Kate McCabe explores the indelible mark that the lives of James and Harriet Colles and their children left on the United States and the streetscapes of Morristown.
Presenter Kate McCabe grew up on Farragut Place and graduated from Morristown High School before earning a BA in American History from Brown University as well as a master’s degree in American Studies from Columbia University. After retiring from a career in education in 2019, she has spending much of her time at the Morristown and Morris Township Library piecing together the story of the construction of the Headquarters Plaza Project.
