Eyewitness to History: The Marquis de Lafayette Visits Morristown
Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, better known as the Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834), made his triumphant return to Morristown, two-hundred years ago on July 14, 1825.
Family history suggests that Louisa Macculloch (1785-1863) and her daughter, Mary Macculloch (1804-1888), were on the decorating committee for Lafayette’s visit.
This special exhibition celebrating Lafayette’s return and the connection to the Macculloch family is on view through December 2025.
