In 2025, Sherman continued to tour internationally, performing at top-tier venues including Carnegie Hall, Paris Philharmonie, and Royal Albert Hall. As drummer and arranger for GRAMMY-winning vocal star Samara Joy—a surprise guest at last year’s Back Deck concert—Sherman brought his unique sound to audiences across five continents.
At just 30-something, Evan Sherman has become one of the most sought-after jazz musicians of his generation. Whether leading his own big band or playing as a sideman in smaller ensembles, Sherman brings technical mastery, energy, and a deep love for the music.
About Evan Sherman
Evan Sherman began his professional music career in his teens and earned a Presidential Scholarship to attend Manhattan School of Music. Before graduating in 2015, he had already performed with jazz legends including Ron Carter, Cyrus Chestnut, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Heath, John Lee, and Branford and Wynton Marsalis.
Described as a drummer who “plays like an old master,” Sherman was featured on the acclaimed 2017 release Masters Legacy with Ron Carter. Since 2022, he has toured extensively with Samara Joy, performing at premier jazz festivals like North Sea, Newport, Montreux, and Monterey, as well as appearing on major TV broadcasts including the GRAMMYs, The Tonight Show, 60 Minutes, and more.
His 2021 debut album Sidewalkin’ introduced his dynamic quintet sound, and he can also be heard on Samara Joy’s GRAMMY-winning 2023 track Tight and her 2024 release Portrait, where Sherman contributed both as drummer and arranger.

About the Back Deck
Since launching in July 2020, The Back Deck has presented over 72 performances of critically acclaimed artists, welcomed more than 11,000 patrons, and received critical praise from local and national media. The series has presented established artists and rising stars with several ensembles going on to receive national acclaim. Now an established part of the regional cultural landscape, the Museum’s elevated parking deck has become known for elegant tailgates and world-class music each summer.
