Chinatown by the Sea Celebration

Chinatown by the Sea Celebration
The Bradley Beach Historical Society and Museum (BBHS) will host a Chinatown by the Sea Celebration on Saturday, August 26 from 1- 7 PM at the Fire House Banquet Hall, 815 Main Street. This multi-generational celebration of the Chinese American experience in Bradley Beach will feature author Ava Chin reading from her new book, Mott Street: A Chinese American Family’s Story of Exclusion and Homecoming. Emmy-winning actress Jodi Long, who also has deep roots in Bradley Beach, will read an excerpt from her autobiographical play, Surfing My DNA. John Mok, whose grandparents were the first Chinese family to purchase a house in Bradley Beach in the early 1940s, will point out historic sights for those who sign up for a bus tour of the North End. Guests are welcome to contribute their own stories after descendants of early residents like John Mok and Tim Pon reminisce during Oral History Hour, which will be professionally moderated. Other activities include a dumpling-making demonstration/tasting and an exhibit from the Museum of Chinese Americans. Refreshments will be served throughout the event. Tickets are $30 pp which includes one-year BBHS Membership (new members only). Attendance is limited to the first 125 people.
