All That Jazz with Alex Bugnon
All That Jazz with Alex Bugnon
Join the Morris Museum and WBGO Presents All That Jazz for a performance by renowned jazz-soul musician, composer, and bandleader Alex Bugnon.
Alex Bugnon has brought energy and creativity to the contemporary music scene for almost three decades. He comes from the picturesque town of Caux, Switzerland—four miles above Montreux, home of the world-famous Jazz Festival. The festival’s yearly gathering of legendary musicians in his hometown, and often in his own home, strongly shaped his decision to pursue music. His early friendship with Herbie Hancock also guided him, as did the influence of his uncle, the legendary Donald Byrd.
Throughout his career, Bugnon has built a loyal fan base across the country and around the world. He continues to tour tirelessly and even surpassed Dizzy Gillespie’s record number of appearances at Washington, D.C.’s Blues Alley. Last year marked his twentieth consecutive performance at the iconic venue. Bugnon keeps a strict daily routine: he never skips a day of piano practice or writing. When he isn’t composing, he listens to the artists who shaped his sound—Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Red Garland, Ahmad Jamal, Kenny Kirkland, Mulgrew Miller, Wynton Kelly, Joe Sample, George Duke, and Keith Jarrett.
Bugnon lives in the historic village of Harlem, New York, and maintains a strong connection to his beloved Montreux.
