Luke Miller House
- 105 Ridgedale Avenue, Ridgedale Park, Madison, Morris County, New Jersey, 07940, United States
Captain Lemuel Bowers built the house and served in the State Militia during the Revolution. Because the site was secluded, New Jersey’s first governor after independence chose to live here. Gov. William Livingston and his family moved often due to British harassment. His longest stay was in this house, which he leased from Capt. Bowers from 1777 to 1780. Several military maps from the period show the house’s location, but Robert Erskine’s war maps do not. Some believe Erskine avoided marking it to prevent the British from discovering its location. There was one documented attempt to capture Gov. Livingston while he lived in Parsippany.
