Timothy Mills House

Timothy Mills was born around 1718 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York. He moved to Morristown around 1740 and built a house on what is now Mills Street. He served as a teamster in the Morris County Militia under Capt. John Lindsley. Mills worked as a farmer, oversaw care for the poor, and ran a tannery. He moved to Basking Ridge after the war.

Mills died in Morristown and was buried in the First Presbyterian Churchyard on March 4, 1803. His house still stands at 27 Mills Street. It is the oldest home in Morristown on its original site. The property, listed as item D43 in the Morris County Master Plan, was also surveyed for HABS.
