Larzalere’s Tavern, known as The Half Moon, served as headquarters for Brigadier General John Stark during the Jockey Hollow encampment 1779-1780. The tavern was demolished during construction of I-287. The site is item D8 in the Morris County Master Plan, Historic Preservation Element.
According to the Morris County Burial Grounds Inventory, published in 1976, Jacob Larzalere owned and operated the Half Moon. The Larzalere family burial ground was located off Stark Road in Mendham.
