Slingerland Homestead

Cornelius Slingerland was born in Pompton Plains on January 15, 1763. The D.A.R. notes the nature of his service is unknown. Mr. Slingerland may have been associated with supplying the Army with vinegar. In the late eighteenth century, the Slingerland home served as a farm and produced industrial vinegar for the surrounding mines.

Mr. Slingerland died in Pompton Plains on March 12, 1827 and is buried there in the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains. The Slingerland Homestead is Item A14 in the Morris County Master Plan, Historic Preservation Element.
