Built in 1774, the home is nicknamed “Old Fort”. The structure is rumored to have served as a store house during the American Revolution. A later occupant was Louis Richard Schoenheit, Civil War veteran. He served as a pall bearer at the funeral for President Abraham Lincoln, and was a member Samuel Starr Post no. 71, German Valley, Morris County, New Jersey. Mr. Schoenheit died in May of 1910 in his driveway, watching Haley’s Comet for the second time in his life.
