Long Hill Township Beacon Site

Builders most likely erected the beacon in late 1777, when several others rose across central New Jersey to warn of British movement. These signal points played a vital role in alerting local militias during the Revolutionary War. Two years later, in 1779, General Washington ordered the construction of additional beacons throughout the state to strengthen the communication network.
