John Gwinnup House
Mr. Gwinnup was a resident of Morristown and served as a Private in the Morris County Militia. Private Gwinnup was attacked by Tories and died of a fractured skull in January of 1777. He is buried in the First Presbyterian Churchyard, Morristown. Private Gwinnup’s house was once located on Spring Street and was relocated to Historic Speedwell. The structure is now known as the L’Hommedieu House. Nathaniel L’Hommedieu sold the house to John Gwinnup in 1775. The structure now serves as the Visitors Center for Historic Speedwell.
