Erskine’s War Map of 1778–1779 marks this tavern as a key site during the Revolutionary War. In 1781, Colonels Tilghman and Van Cortlandt mentioned it in their military correspondence. Van Cortlandt also wrote about it in a 1780 letter to General Washington.
