Half-Way House
Description
Half-Way House
Colonel Ellis Cook, the owner, served in the Eastern Battalion of the Morris County Militia during the American Revolution. He also served on the Committee of Correspondence and the Provincial Congress of 1776, and later on the State Legislature. The name “Half-Way” likely came from Sussex County farmers and drovers who stopped here on their trips to the Newark markets. The inn marked the halfway point of their journey.
