Born in North Farms, New Jersey, on October 4, 1737, Mr. Thompson served as a Private and "Captain of Minutemen", Morris County Militia. Mr. Thompson and his wife, Hannah Cory Thompson, rendered substantial aid to soldiers in Morristown during the winter of 1779-1780. Mr. Thompson was Chairman of the Committee of Correspondence for Mendham Township; a delegate to the Provincial Congress; a county judge, and Justice of the Peace. He served as a Deacon of the Presbyterian Church in Mendham. Judge Thompson died in Mendham on December 28, 1824 and is buried in the Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham.
Hannah’s father, Daniel Cory, constructed a home for the two c. 1770. The David Thompson House is part of the Main Street District, Item G14, in the Morris County Master Plan, Historic Preservation Element. The structure was also the subject of a HABS report.
