David Richards Farmhouse Site

David and Edus Richards built this house in the early 18th century, establishing one of the earliest family homesteads in the area. Their son, Samuel Richards, later served in the Revolutionary War and was killed in the Battle of Springfield in 1780, a pivotal conflict that helped secure New Jersey from further British invasion. The Richards home stood for nearly three centuries as a reminder of the family’s legacy and the region’s colonial past. Although the structure was demolished in 2005, its historical importance endures. The David Richards Farm remains recognized as Item C34 in the Morris County Master Plan, Historic Preservation Element, preserving its story within the county’s record of historic sites.
