Cornelius Ludlow House
Born in 1729 in New Jersey, Mr. Ludlow enlisted in Long Hill in 1776. He served as a First Major (1776); Lieutenant Colonel (1777) in the Morris County Militia Col. Under Martin’s Battalion, Heards Brigade (1776). Participated in the battles of the Three Rivers, Long Island, Germantown, and Springfield. The major resigned in November of 1777 due to a disability. In Civilian life, he served as a Morris County judge. Mr. Ludlow died on April 27, 1812, and is buried in the New Providence Presbyterian Churchyard, New Providence, Union County, New Jersey. His home, “Sentinel Elms” in Long Hill, remains standing. Sentinel Elms now serves as a religious retreat.
