Canal Day
Mark your calendars! Canal Day returns to Montville Township on Saturday, April 18 from 12–4 PM—the first event of its kind since the canal’s dedication in 1988. Presented in partnership with the Montville Township Historical Society and Montville Township, the celebration brings the Morris Canal to life, giving residents the chance to explore Montville’s history and connect it to the broader story of the United States during the nation’s 250th anniversary year
The event will take place along the canal next to Macculloch Drive, a key site in Montville’s growth. Visitors can walk the historic towpath, imagine the mules and canal crews at work, and see firsthand how this waterway shaped both the township and the surrounding region.
For the afternoon, the area will be transformed into a pedestrian-friendly celebration featuring historical presentations, live period music, guided bus tours of historic canal sites, interactive exhibits—including a mobile museum—remarks from local, county, and state dignitaries, and food trucks for all ages.
