Lydia’s Tale
Lydia’s Tale
The Mystery of Lydia Darragh, Irish Quaker, Patriot Spy
Lydia Darragh eavesdropped on British forces as they planned a surprise attack, then snuck through the lines and warned Patriot soldiers and her actions are said to have saved George Washington’s army from a devastating ambush in Whitemarsh at the end of 1777. But did the secret she brought to the Patriots really prevent their defeat?
Author Robert N. Fanelli, Secretary of the Washington Crossing American Revolution Roundtable and frequent contributor to the Journal of the American Revolution, will be joining us to tell Lydia’s tale in the Library’s Lower Level Meeting Room.
