Phineas Chidester House

Born in Morris County on July 13, 1757 and a resident of Mendham Township, at no. 17 School House Lane. Mr. Chidester relocated to Mendham Borough where he operated a tavern. Enlisting at Mendham in 1775, he served as a Minute Man and a Private in the Morris County Militia under Cook, Carnes, Capt. Pierson, Capt. Gaston. Participated in the battles of Springfield, Vermuele, Hackensack, Aquackanonk. Mr. Chidester died in Morris County, April 22, 1814 and is buried in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Succasunna.
