Lewis Noe House
While Lewis was serving with General Washington's army at Valley Forge, Pa., Hessian soldiers foraging for food during a blizzard, stayed here overnight. As his wife, Phoebe Brant-Noe spoke German, they took only a few chickens, sparing her family from starvation.
Phoebe Noe was one of the earliest known survivors of a limb amputation in Morris County. Having her leg amputated, Mrs. Noe coped by strapping a three-legged milking to herself to assist her with mobility.
