Opera at Florham’s Education and Outreach program offers free registration to Opera Talk – The Marvelous Mezzos in Italian Opera. This event will delve into the world of Italian Opera, focusing on the mesmerizing performances of some of the world’s most celebrated Mezzo-Sopranos.
The vocal range of the Mezzo-Soprano lies between the Soprano and Contralto and generally has a heavier, darker tone than a Soprano. Occasionally getting the lead, Mezzos typically sing secondary roles, but sometimes, as adversaries, they can overpower their Soprano rivals both dramatically and vocally.
Guests will have the opportunity to listen to excerpts from the legendary Mezzo characters in Italian Opera, including performances by Marilyn Horne, Shirley Verrett, Fiorenza Cossotto, and Giulietta Simionato.
