“Antiquing and Boutiquing”

The following drive will take you through vibrant downtowns, small villages and suburban areas where the shopping is unique, friendly and entertaining.  Start at any town listed in bold, drive from one town to the next at your leisure or turn it into a weekend by choosing a local bed and breakfast or hotel and dine in style anywhere along the way.  There is something for everyone in Morris County!  Remember, clothing is tax free in New Jersey!

 

Begin on Main Street (Route 124) in Chatham, where George Washington stayed on his way to Yorktown in 1781; lots of great shopping and dining.  Follow Route 124 into Madison, this small downtown has plenty of reasons to stop, shop, and dine.  Continue on Route 124, past Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and the College of Saint Elizabeth into Morristown, the County Seat, George Washington made his home here for two hard winters, for you, it is easy, great boutiques and friendly service await you. Turn right on South Street and follow it to the Green, continue 3/4 of the way around, turn right onto Washington Street, follow to County Route 510 West (Mendham Road), through Morris Township and into Mendham, where antique shops and small boutiques are located within walking distance of a Revolutionary War era inn.   Follow County Route 510 West, to County Route 513 North, (don’t miss the antiques shops along the way) into Chester, this historic village has over 80 fine shops  offering antiques, clothing and arts and crafts.  Continue on County Route 513 North, across Route 206 and into Washington Township, stopping in the village of Long Valley, a cozy town with a rich history and diverse shopping. Return to Chester on County Route 513 South and turn left onto Route 206 North (stop at the gift and gourmet shops along the way) and follow it into Mount Olive.  Turn left onto International Drive South, great shopping with well known stores on both sides of the street.  Continue to Route 46 and turn right onto Route 46 East, follow into Netcong and then Roxbury Township where you can stop in the Landing and Ledgewood sections of town.  Turn onto Route 10 East through Randolph follow past the County College of Morris and into Denville, at Morris Plains, turn right onto Route 202 South (Speedwell Avenue),  where one of Morris County’s  youngest towns has a great town center, follow Route 202 into downtown and end in Morristown at the Green.
